Recognizing the Vital Role of EMS Professionals

May 23, 2026

This month of May features OSA’s support for EM/s Week 2026.

Every year, the third week in May is designated as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, a time to recognize and celebrate the vital role that EMS professionals play in our communities. In 2026, we celebrate this important week from May 17th to May 23rd.

Why is EMS Week Important?

  • Recognizing Heroes: EMS professionals, including paramedics, EMTs, and dispatchers, are on the front lines, providing critical care during emergencies. This week highlights their dedication and bravery.
  • Community Awareness: EMS Week serves as a reminder of the importance of emergency preparedness. It encourages communities to learn about local EMS services and how to respond in emergencies.
  • Education and Training: The week provides an opportunity for EMS agencies to showcase their skills, conduct training sessions, and educate the public on first aid, CPR, and other lifesaving techniques.
  • Building Relationships: This week fosters connections between EMS providers and the communities they serve, strengthening trust and collaboration for better emergency response.

Byron Andrews, one of the members of the Virginia Association of First Responders, joined OSA at this event.
